First i want you to understand that listening to the music is very important. As a musician we have the ability to understand what happens in the sound.
So let's have a look at what could improve your critical listening. Here are couple simple steps that if you fallow should bring you a really good idea about what critical listening is about :
- Load a reference track into an audio channel and add a EQ
- Activate the low pass filter and set it to play back only the sub-region ( 20hz-100hz )
- Now copy the EQ and it’s settings and add it the track you want to master, and compare the impact on the sub frequencies
- Next let’s move the filter in the reference track, so we allowed more bass end and add the high pass filter to remover the sub frequency. and past the setting on the track you want to master and compare whats going on in each tracks.
- Continue moving the two filter up and compare each sections in both of the tracks.
- Finally when you get to the high end, remove the low pass filter and leave just the high pass filter. They say this is one of the hardest parts as there will be struggle to hear this frequency entirely .
Note: "Practice - Repetition leads to perfection"
